Cassie @ Primitive and Proper

I am Cassie Bustamante, of Primitive & Proper. Before I talk about what I do, first and foremost, I am a mother to two wonderful children. Sawyer is a kindergartener, and Emmy is in preschool. They are what makes my world go round, and the reason that I strive to be a better person each day. I am married to my best friend, Chris, who likes to call himself the “manual labor of the operation”, as he isn’t so much a DIY kind of person, but certainly helps me with the heavy lifting! I am a daughter to the best parents ever- I have learned everything about parenting from them! I am little sister to a talented (and handsome!!) older brother, and I am a friend who tries the best to be the kind of friend I would want to have.

Primitive & Proper, LLC began about 3 1/2 years ago, when we moved from Louisiana to Maryland, into a much smaller house and had two babies under age 2 at the time (aka, limited time and money). I began filling the holes in our new house with craigslist, thrift store, and yard sale finds I redid, teaching myself and asking my parents for guidance along the way. I discovered that I really enjoyed the creative outlet redoing furniture gave me. Being by myself in my workspace, working on my “canvases”, I found a peace and serenity I needed after a busy day with an infant and toddler.

I slowly built up my courage to try selling items, and it just took off and a full-fledged business was born. I never imagined that I would be asmall business owner, or that Primitive & Proper would become what it did, and I feel very blessed and lucky. It allows me to have an income as well as a highly flexible schedule that allows me time for the really important things, like soccer games, school field trips, and bedtime snuggles.

I am so grateful that I get to do what I love, and be the best mommy I can be. I started writing my blog after I already had the business. My blog is a great way for me to connect with new friends with like interests, and it also pushes me to test creative waters. I love trying new things, and am so excited for this opportunity with the DIY Club so that I can try new things, learn along the way, and share and grow with you!
