Roeshel’s PB Inspired Easter Vignette

by Roeshel on March 16, 2011

I fell in love with a Pottery Barn vignette as I often do. This one was for Easter…

Problem:  Silk flowers/branch, pitcher, 2 bunnies = $200 for seasonal decor.
So pretty but not in my budget.
However, it inspires my DIYdesire.
Materials:
  • Creamy white vase (I had one. Scour thrift stores/etc.)
  • White ribbon
  • Straight pins
  • Deco Art Paint (I used Americana Gloss Enamels in white and added a bit of Deco Art Dazzling Metallics bronze and Americana Acrylic in eggshell)
  • White bunnies (I used two ceramic bunnies I already had in my Easter decor)
  • Paper Mache Eggs x 11 (approximately less than $10 with Michael’s coupon)
  • Faux Forsythia ($5 at Michaels)

My Total:  Less than $20
Tutorial: Here is what I did in the order I did it, but the steps are flexible. Arrange faux Forsythia or branch in vase.  Decide where eggs should be hung.
Make a loop of ribbon and knot one end.
Insert straight pin through end of loop without knot.
Push pin into top of paper mache egg.
Hang on a branch in your arrangement.
I used these three paints, mostly white mixing in a touch of bronze and eggshell.
Paint the paper mache eggs.
I painted where they were hanging so I didn’t have to dry and turn and paint again.
Warning:  Fingers will be covered in paint!
My existing Easter bunny stash…
My daughter helped out and gave the bunnies a fresh new look using the same paint mixed above.
After eggs are dry (about 30 minutes), I used pencil to draw the letters to spell
“HAPPY EASTER”.
I made a similar fuzzy/scribbled font as my PB inspiration using a Sharpie.
All done…
Just as pretty and festive and more personalized but way less $$$.

What do you think? Do you imitate your favorite catalog pages for seasonal decor?

Your knock off looks great! I had the same inspiration and I’m still working on mine. Great idea to use a pen to draw on the letters.

this is awesome! i’m thinking that all my little bunnies are going to get a coat of white paint…..

Oh my goodness….so clever to paint the little bunnies white! Another idea….paint them the right shade of brown and they’ll look like chocolate bunnies….year after year! I love the freshness of the white though. Also, painting the eggs while they’re hanging….genius! I would have fought the eggs as they rolled around! =)

Beautiful! I love everything white! I wanted to try those eggs, I bought the cardboard eggs only I was wondering how I would paint them fuzzy like. I never thought of using a sharpie! Smart!
Thanks for the inspiration!

I absolutely love how this turned out! I am so inspired to try something like this myself. I actually think I like yours better than the PB one! I want to post a link to this on my blog…hope that is okay.
