Ron & Amy’s Honda Trail 70 Wheel Fix-Up featuring Krylon & Rockler

by Amy of WhisperWood Cottage on May 27, 2011

Ron’s head ’bout spun around with excitement when he found the Krylon Rust Tough Rust Fix Converting Primer I had on hand. He was prepping to do some work on this vintage Honda Trail 70 mini bike we had picked up at a flea market a couple years ago. He had ordered some parts to spruce up the engine and was pumped to get started on doing a little revamp on the wheels. We were also able to put our safety gear to use, too! Did you know there are different respirators for different kinds of projects? I didn’t, but thank goodness the knowledgable Rockler representative did! We were prepared! Read more below…

SUPPLIES

1. We started by removing the tires from the mini bike wheels.

2. Ron put on the sand blaster and sanding grit, then put on the power air respirator from Rockler (a must when working with woodworking or other dust particles!), ear plugs, the mask, and the gloves. He sand-blasted the entire surface of both wheels.

3. After sand blasting, he then switched over to the Paint Spray Respirator from Rockler. Did you know that you have to use different respirators for different projects? This one is good for Lacquer, Enamel Paints, Pesticides, Welding, Dusts, Non-Oil Mists & Radon Daughters.

4.  With his Paint Spray Respirator from Rockler on, he sprayed a coat of Krylon Rust Tough Rust Fix Converting Primer onto the wheels. While the wheels were not particularly rusty at this point, this gave them a layer of black waterproof primer to prevent future rusting! The wheels were left overnight to dry.

5. The next day, he put on the Paint Spray Respirator from Rockler again and added a couple coats of the Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Satin Black Spray Paint to finish off the wheels.

6. The tires were put back on the wheels and then back on the mini bike.

Ready to ride in style! Thank you, Krylon & Rockler, for making products that are useful in DIY automotive projects as well as household, woodworking, and craft projects! Great gift ideas for Father’s Day or birthdays!
