For the month of June, I got to use products from STYROFOAM, DecoArt, DISChangers, and Gorilla Glue to create this Wall Art Collage for my guest bedroom.
Wanna see how it was done? Here we go.
I started out with the following STYROFOAM pieces: Two sheets – 1″ x 12″ x 36″; and One 1″ x 12″ X 12″ sheet.
STYROFOAM had a great pattern for this collage, which you can download here or by clicking on one of the pictures below.
I used the above pattern to cut my pieces. This was pretty messy, so I recommend cutting it outside if possible.
Next I went through my fabric and figured out my design.
Once that was figured out, I cut each of my fabric pieces slightly larger than each of the coordinating STYROFOAM pieces.
DecoArt just came out with it’s own Decoupage product and I was eager to try it out.
First I decoupaged my fabric to the top of the STYROFOAM piece.
Then I trimmed each of the corners like so.
This made it easy to decoupage the sides.
Repeat with all your pieces and allow to dry. Once dry, apply a topcoat of decoupage to each piece.
This will seal and protect the fabric. Make sure to get all the edges and corners as well.
Repeat with all your pieces. Once dry, arrange the pieces in your collage pattern and glue together.
I used hot glue for this, but when I picked it up to move it after it dried, it fell apart. So I went back to old reliable – Gorilla Glue.
That did the trick!
I needed to put some sort of hanging hardware on the back of this thing, but the STYROFOAM was so light I didn’t want to do anything too heavy. I remembered some DISChangers I had and those worked perfectly – lightweight and very strong!
Time to hang it up.
Here’s a straight-on shot.
This is hanging over the bed and I love the look it gives the room! I hope you’ll come over to Sew Dang Cute Crafts to visit me for more DIY projects and crafts.

Tam,
This is amazing. Great job. I love your color combos. You could even use papers on some of them for an eclectic combo of textures.

This is such a great idea. I am sure it really lightweight too. What a great piece of art!
Tam,
I love this idea! What did you use to cut the styrofoam though?
