Miss Goo’s Apron

by Cheri on September 24, 2011

Every time I am making something in the kitchen I hear something like: “Mom, Do you need some help from a big girl?” or “Can I be your helper?” or “You need some help don’t you Mom.”

So I decided that Miss Goo needed her own apron when she helps in the kitchen. (Miss Goo decided she did not want to smile for the picture.)

I grabbed a Canvas Corp placemat.
I went through my ribbon supply and found a ribbon that I liked that would be long enough for the tie.
I grabbed a piece of canvas from my fabric supply.
I pulled out my SO SOFT paints from DecoArt. I used the Sizzling Red, Celebration Pink and the Ice Crystals.
You will also need a needle (or a sewing machine) and thread.

I took my extra piece of canvas and drew out a cupcake (on paper), cut the material and painted my cupcake with a cherry on top.

I let it dry then repainted. This So Soft paint  is really super soft and perfectly sparkly for a little helper. I let it dry for a couple of days before finishing this project. After 2 coats of paint it was not crunchy at all–really soft and flexible.

NOW–it was time to put this baby together–

I could have whipped this up with the sewing machine but since we were in the middle of home schooling I stitched by hand while I sat with my two little ones doing their school.

I stitched down the ribbon–going across the top and bottom of the ribbon to keep it in place. It was stitched down just across the top of the placemat, allowing the rest of the “tie” to hang.

Next I stiched down the cupcake. I left the top of the cupcake open so it would be a pocket for her. The paint seems to have sealed the edges of the fabric.

So what do you think?  Do you have a little helper that needs an apron?

Come on over to Its So Very Cheri and grab my recipe for Black and White Bean Soup–it is really yummy.
