Color (functional) in the Kitchen

by Roeshel on January 7, 2012

I was thrilled when I received these turquoise Fiesta mugs for Christmas…

I decided they’d look best on display in our kitchen, where I love having little accents of turquoise to break up the gray and white. Not fussy decor – adding color with something that pretty that will get some use too.
Upper cabinets before:
I decided it’d be best to install my cup hooks into the underside of an area of our upper cabinets, screwing into the board that separates these small drawers was perfect (4 walls, 4 cups). That way the screws wouldn’t poke up into the cabinet shelf.
I measured and made a mark (2.5 inches from the marble backsplash) where I wanted the cup hooks to be inserted.
I drilled a pilot hole.
Using Rockler’s Screw Lube on the screw part of each cup hook made for super easy screw-in.

I love the colorful accent to an otherwise neutral area, don’t you? Easy reach for tea time too!

I absolutly love the color of your new mugs and the platter in the after photo. Great idea not only for additional mug storage but a great way to put a pop of color or a great pattern into a space. I know alot of people are scared of pattern and bright colors so this makes it really approachable and non-scary LOL.

Roeshel I love the turquoise in your kitchen! It gives it a perfect pop of color! Turquoise is a beautiful color and Fiesta mugs are great…. My kitchen has the Fiestaware in “Martha green” but I’m still waiting on those white cabinets! Beautiful touch!
