I have a big ole window right by my front door. It overlooks my porch and when I have people over, I am always trying to figure out how to dress it up – it is the first thing they see.
Now…I got it!
A Welcome Window
And it can be changed with the seasons!
Supplies:
- Welcome Friends and Family Vinyl, white from Design Divas
- Assorted Snowflakes, white from Design Divas
- A window (door, board, etc.)
- Old Store/credit card to smooth vinyl
Additional Supplies
- Window Washing solution
- Paper towel/rag
- Template – pen or pencil and large piece of paper (newsprint/paper bag/etc.)
- Level
DIY IT!
- Wash window thoroughly and make sure it is dry
- Make template – I laid my 2 vinyls out on a table, on top of my newsprint to draw my frame/template.
- Make a cross on your paper/template to position your vinyl on the center horizontally and vertically.
- Find the center of the vinyl and match up the center marks. Tape vinyl (w/ backing still on) to the template of set an object on top to keep it from moving.
- I measures 2″ all around the outside of my vinyl piece to use those line for the frame.
- Draw a rough sketch of a frame.
- Place you snowflakes on the frame for position – HINT: take a photo so you know what you did later…in the next step you need to move your flakes.
- “Fix” the frame by round the corners properly, etc. I used a plate to make my curves.
- HINT: fold the template in quarters to do this and you only need to make you curves/lines perfect on 1/4 of the design.
- Cut out while folded in quarters.
- Your template is complete!
- I used this template to get my design level and properly positioned. I taped this to the INSIDE of the window – I lined up my level with my horizontal center line to make sure it was level…and then used it as a guide to apply my vinyls to the OUTSIDE of the window.
- Place your vinyl - Get the position right, and if you are not using a template (see above) mark it with painters tape on the opposite side of the window to ensure placement is correct.
- I placed my Welcome vinyl first – Remove backing of the vinyl, place on window.
- Smooth with store card
- Add snowflakes into design using same process. I added the snowflakes on the points of the frame first and filled in from there.
Best thing is that you can replace the snowflakes
and continue to update the vinyl as needed with the seasons or occasion! My pumpkin snowman loves his new sign!
The vinyl is pretty and makes a lovely way to welcome guests.
It is also easily removed and Design Divas prices are
so affordable you can do this for all of your parties!

What a neat idea. I wish that the stencil was reversed so you could put it on the inside. It gets very cold in Ohio.
what a great welcome–changing it for each season is great. Your guests will always look for a new fun welcome.

Love it! We recently moved into a new house and though we have an awesome front porch, the way our house is situated makes people come to the sliding door (techincally, our back door) instead. I’ve wanted to dress up my front porch but since no one ever sees it, I love the idea of beautifying the sliding door they’ll see first. Thanks for the inspiration!
I am sure you could order the stencil in reverse–they can probably do a mirror cut.
